Today is your birthday and I would truly be remiss if I didn’t write to you and reiterate to you the immense impact that your life has had upon mine.
Birthdays are interesting, are they not? Like a neon sign just flickering on at dusk, they suddenly grab our attention. And in that second they remind us that we actually have so little to do with this life of ours.
Choices? Yes. Responsibility? Of course. But ultimately, we are simply playing out the course God preordained for us from the beginning.
Who knew, Nik, that your love for China, starting before you even hit junior high, would so profoundly affect my life and the life of my family? I sit at my computer today in southern China, finishing my third year of life here, largely because a bouncy little Georgia girl had a fascination with everything Asian so many years ago.
I didn’t know. You didn’t know. But HE knew.
Your birthday is a reminder to me today, on YOUR day that this path I walk leads to a predetermined destination with no step insignificant.
Yes, at times the path will seem to be a cruel facade, teasing of purposeful direction with no end ever to be found. At times it will seem to be only a spinning circle of aimless wandering with trick mirrors, mirages and empty promises.
No fear. It’s not about me. I don’t have to know. The director’s got it all figured out, is never surprised and has prepared the perfect conclusion.
Yep, this is actually all going somewhere. It all has a purpose. This life of mine has been beautifully designed, coordinated and choreographed.
Thank you, Niki, for being such an integral part of the story of my life. I am honored to have been able to step on the pages of yours through the years.
Happy birthday to you from East Asia! I am so thankful that God placed you on this earth on this day years ago as He took such joy in creating the masterpiece of you!
All Heaven celebrates again today!
