Age 10: Happy Birthday Timmy, Happy Birthday son. Birthdays sure are neat. The gifts, cake, ice-cream, seeing relatives I don’t get to see much, uncle Randy sure is funny, and everyone making a fuss over me, sure is fun. I’ve really grown this year. At least that’s what people are saying. Why does everyone keep asking me what I’m going to be when I grow up? Ok dad, I know about Jesus, joy, and all that stuff. Can I have some more cake?
Age 12-1/2: Yes sir, I understand what it means to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and I really want to be born again. “Lord, I’m sorry for my sins, I know that I’ve done things that hurt others, please help me to stop sinning. Please come into my heart and fill me with Your Holy Spirit.” WOW that sure feels funny, what are all these goose bumps about? “Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, thank You for Loving and accepting me into Your family. Praise Your Holy Name.” Wow what a feeling! Then we sang the song about having Joy down in my heart to stay. Being born again so exciting, you must experience it for yourself to know what it’s like.
Age 19: “Lord, I’m so sorry for turning my back on you these past couple years. I really messed things up this time. I’m so sorry for hurting you, my parents, and so many of my so called friends. I can’t believe that only my family remembered my birthday. Of course you remembered but a birthday just isn’t the same without cake and ice-cream. Jesus, please help me get my act together, and help me mend my relationship with my family. Help me find a good church and some good friends here at college. Please restore the joy of salvation.”
Age 22: “Lord, I want to thank you for another birthday, for helping me through college, for my new job, and most of all I want to thank you for Darlene. Lord, we’ll be getting married this year. Please assure me that we’re doing the right thing, and help me be a great husband. I really love her, she’s wonderful. I’m sorry for my sins and for hurting people with sarcasm, I don’t know why, but I believe and feel that You’ve forgiven me again. Thank You and Praise Your Holy Name.”
Age 22-1/2: Happy birthday Timmy Jr, look at all that hair, welcome to the world, can I hold him? “Lord, help me to be a great dad.”
Age 32-1/2: Timmy, happy birthday son, you sure have grown this year. What are you going to be when you grow up? An astronaut, wow! Tim, you really need to think about asking Jesus into your life. It’s the best thing I ever did. I can’t imagine going through life without Him. I love you so much and want you to know what it’s like to have joy down in your heart to stay. I want you to know what it’s like to have a personal relationship with the creator.
When was the last time you spoke with your child about their relationship with Jesus?
