Topic: Illustrate the meaning of “A Bird in the Hand is Worth Two in the Bush” (without using the actual phrase or literal example). (01/10/08)
Lucy never lacked. She had abundance, but never enough. All her life she was pampered and provided for, first by her parents and then by her husband. Her motto was “get all you want and get it now”

Any wonder she was so quick to jump into this new “opportunity”. It sounded so promising, so easy…how could it possibly be wrong? After all, this was her bosom friend sharing this new exciting path with her. Plus, what harm could there possibly be in giving up some of her life savings to tap into this new goldmine?

So without consulting her husband or the Lord, she signed up and wrote out the huge check to the company for her inventory. If only she knew…

The rest is history - the loss, the pain, the strained relationships, but in the midst of it all she learnt an invaluable lesson “…godliness with contentment is great gain” Never again will she be so hasty, never again will she bypass checking with the Lord and her husband first. It was a costly price to pay, but a great lesson learnt.

Oftentimes people would approach you with a “business idea” or a promise of better earnings, relationship, future, retirement or even financial status. Sometimes they’ll even promise you literally need to “do nothing”! Well if you have been a victim before, you’re not alone.

In reality, though, people actually end up losing more than they gain. And that is why we should always check with the Lord before we jump into any thing…and our motives must always be checked too!

Before you make that commitment, take a moment to bow your head and seek the Lord concerning that proposal. It can be very painful to loose all you’ve worked for in your life or even a portion of it.

Above all be content and seek God’s guidance always. He’ll lead you to the right thing for you.

It might have helped to tell more about the "opportunity".

Thank you for sharing. oh, that we could learn the lessons of life - would save so much pain. It's always better to keep things in hand until God wants to fill it with something else.
Good article and lesson in Christian obedience.
