“Well, it looks like you had a wonderful sleep, honey!” I said to her as I carried her and sat her on the bed.
“I have a song for you.” she said with a bright smile on her face.
“Okay,” I said and walked over to my chair by the window. I sat down and proudly announced to our imaginary audience, “Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome the best singing princess in the world.” I stretched my hand towards her to give her the ‘go’ signal.
Her Teddy was perched on the pillow watching with lots of ‘approval and admiration’ on its face.
Eliza made a quick bow and then started singing.
“I am the church; you are the church,
We are the church together.
All who follow Jesus, all around the world –
yes, we are the church together.
The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple,
The church is not a dwelling place
The church is the people!”
She bowed and said, “Thank you.”
“Bravo, bravo, bravo. Well done. Very goooooooooood.” I exclaimed to her as I ran with small steps towards her. I lifted her up, put her down and kissed her. “I’m so proud of you, honey.”
“Again, again, again?” she demanded. The singing went on and on and on until she suddenly stopped and said, “Oops, I need to go…” Her little index finger was pointing at the door.
My eyes followed her ran out of the room. Her small running footsteps faded and “bang” went the toilet door.
I dragged my feet down the staircase. I seemed to be hypnotized by something as I went straight to the kitchen. I could smell the sweet aroma of freshly brewed macadamia nuts flavored coffee that was gifted to us by our missionary friends who just got back from Kona, Hawaii a week ago. My wife told me that she could brew more coffee if I wanted to as she got 2 kilograms more of Hawaiian coffee sitting in the cupboard. “Woo, no, no, no, that would give us a jittery weekend!” I reacted.
She shook her head in disbelief. “As if I didn’t know you.” She said.
I sat lazily on the wooden porch. I just finished reading the newspaper and I was feeling disturbed by the series of sad news happening in the world. Almost everyday, news on corruption, immorality, deception and violence fill the pages. “Lord, have mercy on us!” I sighed. “How, can we help people handle their frustrations without having to kill or hurt someone? Recently, one hate mail said that “Churches and Christians suck!”
Staring at the horizon, I started humming Eliza’s song. Then I was slowly singing it out from the depths of my heart. The song ministered to me. I felt so peaceful. Then the Holy Spirit gave me a gentle nudge and whispered, “Your song has reached heaven.”
