One question rings through my mind when thinking of today’s society involving Christian married men. Are you a man or a mouse? You might be asking yourself why I would ask such a question. Here is my answer.
Do you ever wonder why a staggering percentage of wives in this country resort to watching soap operas and reading romance novels instead of putting forth effort into their own marriages? What about the number of households in which the parents rely on computers, television and video games to pacify and/or raise their children. Instead of mothers and fathers devoting time to their children raising them to understand concepts of Christ and integrity, they allow the public school system to explain important matters to their children. These same children that have grown accustom to getting everything they demand. Society is so self centered that the word family is taboo. The consensus is if we get married then I will have to give up “me” time. Or “I want to do the things that I want to do before I get tied down.” When you bring the word kids up in the mix you might as well forget it. “Kids are an anchor.” Or “You are crazy if you have kids.”
Where am I going with all of this? First let me tell you what I am not saying. I am not saying that if you watch daily soaps or read romance novels that you are not happy in your marriage. Nor am I saying that children should never be allowed to watch the television set. What I am saying is that Christian married men need to lead their family’s right to the gates of the Kingdom. Only Jesus Christ can save us and bring us into His family. I do strongly believe that God has called husbands and/or fathers to be the priests, provider and protector of the home.
As the “priest” of the home, it is our responsibility to live by example. The “do as I say, not as I do” method is inherently destructive. Our children and wives watch our actions. In everyday life situations confront us. How do we handle them? I am sure the answer that we give and the answer that comes from our wife and children are much different. Now is the time to take a stand and declare that today is the day where curses passed down from previous generations stop. Today is the day to speak blessings onto your wife and children. Today is the day that we put away childish things.
We as Christian married men are called to be the provider. Unfortunately, there seems to be a common misunderstanding with young men in today’s society. Passing off responsibility seems to be the main game these days. Unwillingness to work and more interested in watching sports and quoting sport statistics. Let us lead by example and provide for our families. If you are a single male, practice makes perfect.
As the protector of the family we are to keep a watchful eye of what is allowed into our homes. I understand that we have to protect our families from intruders and things of that nature, however there are many forms of intruders. Your Child’s friends are an example. Do you know who they hang around? What do they do when they are together? If you don’t trust their “friend” or “friends”, then lead your child out of that environment. Are there any television shows that are watched in the home that could be considered a gateway for evil to enter? What about music listened to, or websites visited? It is our job as the husband and/or father to protect our family from these influences that not only could harm us physically, but more importantly spiritually.
I am calling on all Christian men, single and married alike to be a leader in today’s society. It is up to us to pass on the legacy of blessings to our wife, children, grandchildren and beyond. Take a stand and declare to be the generation to stop the curses and start the blessings in your family. Take a stand and be a light to a darkened world. I am asking Christian men not to be mice and buckle under the pressures of this fallen world, but to be bold and courageous, just as God created us Christian men to be. Allow God to work His wonders through you. Do this and be amazed.

When you state that "a staggering percentage" of women watch soaps and read romance novels, you should have a study or statistic to back that up.
This was very much about the "home," but not really about "home groups", this week's topic.
This is well-organized, well thought out, and well-written.
