“Valentine’s Day,” she muttered sadly. She hated that holiday. She remembered the day it all started. It hurt her to remember. She had just come home from her honeymoon with her husband. They were heading towards their new home, when it started raining. All Sara remembered was running across the street with her husband and suddenly realizing that he had fallen. She had turned around and saw that he had been hit by a car. “Eric…” She began to cry.
Later that day, she went to church for a special Valentine’s Day message. She was all alone in the back pew.
The preacher began to speak his message. “Happy Valentine’s Day!” he began. “This is a wonderful holiday for everyone, even those who don’t have family.” Sara looked up shocked. “My wife died many years ago from a terrible disease. I…miss her very much, but I found out, after, that Jesus could be my valentine if I asked Him into my life. I did that ,then and there. He can be your valentine, too. It says in the Bible that we are His bride. He is our husband . If you have lost your spouse, just trust in the Lord, and He’ll be your valentine.”
Sara continued to listen to the preacher. When he finished, she was in a daze. In all her life of being a Christian, she had never known that Jesus could be her valentine, her friend, and her spouse. She cried as she prayed a little prayer. “Dear Lord, please forgive me for not knowing how wonderful You are. I want You to be my valentine.”
Later on, Sara stood in front of her husband’s tomb stone. The words ‘Eric Johnson, dearly beloved son and husband’ was engraved on it. She shed a small tear. “Hey, Eric,” she said. “I found out today that Jesus can be my valentine. So, He can be your valentine too in heaven.. Eric, even though He is my valentine, now, I will never forget you and I will always love you.”
