Then Georgie said, “Let us introduce squamata to the earth, male and female, after our likes and dislikes; and let them have dominion over all the earth and every living thing on it.” And Georgie planted a lavish garden pleasant to the sight and good for food; and there he put the squamata, male and female, whom he had raised and loved.
In the midst of the garden, near a beautiful waterfall, he planted a crimson red tree with yellow branches and golden leaves. And Georgie loudly commanded from above, “Let this tree serve as a reminder to you that you may eat, drink, and enjoy every gift I have given you, but you must not change color. For in the day that you change color, you shall positively die.”
And Georgie saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.
Now the chameleon was more striking and cunning than any other wild creature on the earth. He said to the female lizard, “Did Georgie say, 'You shall absolutely not change to any color you wish?” And the female lizard replied to the chameleon, “We may eat crickets, worms, moths and roaches, and have dominion over all the earth, but Georgie said, 'You shall not change color, for in the day that you do, you shall positively die.'”
The chameleon replied to the female lizard, “You will positively NOT die! Look how exquisitely I manipulate my hues; my yellows, my greens, my blues. My scaly skin is a pallet of artistic beauty. Do please, change your canvas as you wish, for Georgie knows that the day you change colors your eyes will be opened, and you will be like Georgie, knowing the complete spectrum of the rainbow!”
The female lizard saw that the crimson tree was a sight to behold and that the chameleons constantly changing scales delighted the eyes, and thought maybe a few new colors could make one wise; but the female lizard did not change color! She called to her reptilian gecko husband, and after hearing the chameleons claim and witnessing his prism of awe, he replied, “How could I actually do this evil thing, change color, and sin against Georgie?”
Just then they heard the sound of their lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and both reptiles ran to the ends of the earth to meet him, and bore witness - with their long tongues whipping out repeatedly - to all they had seen and heard.
Lord Georgie said to the chameleon, "Because you are a cold blooded tempter of colors, which I have outlawed, cursed are you above all tetrapods, and above all lizards, kimono dragons, and gila monsters; upon your belly you shall go and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. You will lose your tail and your limbs, and regeneration will fail you. I will bruise you in the head and you will by no means bruise my heel.”
And the chameleon was cast out of earth, into a tiny glass abyss to be locked away forever.
To the male and female lizards he said, "Because you have obeyed my voice and proven yourselves faithful in service, I will shower you with gifts of the spirit. Blessed is the ground because of you; you shall eat of it all the days of your life; your labours will be small and your yoke will be light, a sweet harvest of delight this soil shall bring forth to you; and you shall eat and be blessed and live forever in this paradise I have made for you.“
And Georgie blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill this earth, and subdue it; and above all, love your Georgie with your whole soul, with your whole mind, and with your whole spirit, for this is the sole purpose of lizards.” And it was so.
Then Georgie slid the huge lid back over the terrarium and went outside to play.

My only concern is that it may be light on the topic of "gifts."
But I really, really loved this.
