A tap on his arm brought him out of his reverie as he looked at his little daughter standing there. Blue eyes. Blonde curls hanging in ringlets down her little neck. Pink, chubby cheeks all squished up by a radiant smile. Those big, blue eyes pleaded with him to pick her up. So he swung her up on his lap, the bills forgotten for the moment. She snuggled in close as she proudly told him that she was wearing “big girl” panties with green froggies on them. In her two-year-old lingo, all he really understood was the green froggy part. Then she snuggled in a little deeper, let out a huge sigh, and laid her curly head against his chest. She still smelled like the chocolate chip cookie she had just eaten, especially since half of it was left on her face and down her dress.
Her baby-soft arms reached up to encircle his neck as he kissed her precious head. “I wuv you, Daddy!” The words wrapped themselves around his troubled heart and he felt himself relax a bit. Adult troubles meant nothing to a sweet, little girl of two years old. But having a daddy to love meant the world to her. He sighed as she put a slobbery kiss on his cheek, then his other cheek, and then his nose. She was just what his heart needed right then – a moment of innocence and charm.
He hoped he’d remember this moment forever . . . when he was touched by a little angel.
