Sunday School - these two words stir up memories of little frilly dresses and bowties, the way my brothers and I were dressed each Sunday while our parents still had a say in what we wore to church. The words Sunday School make me think of a simpler time in my life, where corn kernels, Popsicle sticks, glitter and glue made a great story of Christ’s birth to share with my parents on the ride home or just before we sat down to a Sunday dinner. My family never knew life without Sunday School and as my brothers and I have had our own children we all have chosen churches who offer Sunday School to our families.
Sunday School is a place to learn and grow in our walk with Christ. As adults, it is a unique learning opportunity to be taught by our peers who have answered a call to serve. We build relationships by sharing in each others struggles and victories through prayers of hope and thanksgiving while studying God’s word.
Our lives seem to be more hectic and fast paced than our parents so we have to make sure that Sunday School is a part of our children’s heritage. I pray we don’t just make sure our kids get there, I also pray we take the time to listen to our children explain the story that lies upon the paper they bring home covered in glitter and glue!
