At some point in our lives a very unpleasant experience(s) that we were faced with made us fearful of something we should not be afraid of.
Some people are fearful of many things. Fear of speaking in front of people because you are afraid you might mispronounce a word or two and the audience will notice it. Fear of making new friends and entering a new relationship because of being rejected in the past. Fear of failure because of not exceeding in the past and you were criticized. Now you are holding back from reaching your goals. This will keep you from trying again because you are convinced in your mind that you will only fail again. Just to name a few examples.
Being fearful can cripple you and keep you from moving forward in the direction that you are supposed to be headed in.
The bible says in II Timothy 1:7 "For Elohim (GOD) hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind". KJV.
Also the bible says in Psalm 34:4 "I sought Yahveh (The Lord) and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears.
So you can have this assurance that you have absolutely nothing to be fearful of because we can look to Yahveh (The Lord) and He will calm all of our fears. I John 4:4 "...Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world". KJV.
When we are going through lifes ups and down and we just want to be left alone, remember that The Almighty Yahveh (God) extends His hands to us and invites us to be His friends. So that leaves us with a decision to make. We can either keep to ourselves and let opportunities pass us by or we can open our hearts to a friendship of unlimited love in guidance which is in Yahshua (Jesus).
It is Yahveh (The Lord) that gives us the power and ability to overcome any obstacles we may be facing. We just need to trust Him to deliver us.

In general, it isn't a good idea to start out with a dictionary definition. Start out with something more exciting, then, if you still feel it's necessary to make your point, put the definition into the the 2nd or 3rd sentence, after you already have the reader's interest.
