Still dizzy and greatly pained after her Caesarean operation, Esther felt the question gripped her heart in fear. It was the same fear she had faced for the last three months since she knew she might have no chance to deliver her baby alive to the world. When her pregnancy reached the seventh month, the CTG scan showed that Miranda’s heartbeat was almost non-existent and her weight was only half of what was normal. Her gynecologist said there was not much chance for Miranda to survive.
Esther’s heart was shattered to pieces. Amidst her tears, she made a brave choice not to give up Miranda as the gynecologist suggested. She decided to take the least promising option to wait for three more months until it was time for her to give birth to Miranda and hoped for miracle. She knew for the following three months, she would be confined to a total bed rest and she must take oral medication, infusion and injection every single day. There would be no guarantee at all yet she prayed and asked God for the best.
The three months felt like a hellish roller coaster for Esther. There were days when Miranda was diagnosed to get better but soon the baby’s condition would drop again. Esther was physically and emotionally exhausted. One day she prayed earnestly to God, surrendering everything into His loving Hands. Suddenly within her deepest heart, she knew Miranda would never become part of her life and she was greatly terrified by such a revelation.
“God, I’m afraid. I don’t think I can cope with this loss. But You are the faithful One and when I’m afraid, I will trust in You.”
Two weeks before birth, the gynecologist found that Miranda had died in Esther’s womb. No miracle took place. Her most terrible fear had come true. In bitterness, Esther underwent a Caesarean operation to deliver her dead baby out.
It was after she gained her consciousness that her husband asked if she wanted to see Miranda. Tears swelled in Esther’s eyes. She nodded weakly although she was scared. She didn’t know what deformity she should expect to see. Then the nurse came to bring in Miranda. The baby was all wrapped in white cloth. Esther’s heart leapt when the nurse put Miranda in her arms.
Yet what she saw was a miracle. Miranda was perfect. She was beautiful. There was a dried wound in her head but she was perfect. Her little body felt cold in Esther’s hands but deep inside, unfathomable warmth slowly began to fill her chest. Esther touched the baby’s little head gently and kissed her, “Miranda, please forgive Mommy. God will take a much better care of you in heaven. Wait for me, I’ll see you there.”
When I am afraid, I will trust in You (Psalm 56: 3 NIV)

I know this must have been incredibly hard for you to write, but I'd like to see it extended a bit. What were you thinking during those days you were on bed rest? Did you feel Miranda kicking at all?
Great writing. You had my interest throughout.
Great job.
