“For God has not give us a spirit of fear,
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." ” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).
If God did not give us a spirit of fear why do we chose to do so?
Since we are believers in Jesus Christ, and are convinced there are only two powers on earth; it is not hard to figure it out, is it? Or are we deceived as well as the rest of non-believers?
It is said there are at least 366 verses of scriptures in the Bible that tell us in some word or another we are to "fear not; " but that when we do, how to overcome them God's way. That is a verse for every day of the year, including leap year. God knew we would face fear, but that we could overcome it His way. So why then are we so fearful?
I have lived in fear in many areas of my life, because I didn’t trust our wonderful God to keep His promises and help me live" fearless" in a fearful world. I also wasn’t willing to meet the conditions He places on each of His promises, until recently.
But I know that God has helped me face and overcome so many of my fears, so that I could honor and glorify Him by sharing with each of you that it is possible, and what He commands that we do to live a fearless life.
I know that as a follower of Jesus Christ, I have only one nature, that of His. I know that I "was crucified with Christ, and that I no longer live", so I no longer want to fear.
But the truth is until I faced my fears, and asked and sought God's help to overcome them; my flesh continued to choose my fear over faith in my Lord every day. Then that opened the door of opportunity for fear to show up.
So how can you make the needed changes so that you can go from being afraid to living a life of power, love, and a sound mind? To begin you need to seek God and ask Him to show you in His Word the verses He wants you to see about fear. Then you have to willingly want to accept His conditions for change.
These will be different for each of us; as He is a personal God and has a unique plan and a purpose for each of us. It is designed to address you as He sees you, not as you see yourself. But the idea is to admit your need to change, and be willing to be and do whatever He asks of you.
Do you want to be free to live fearless God's way, or do you still want to choose your way? Is your way working for you? I admit now, that the price I have had to pay, for wanting to do it my way, was not what He had for me as His child.
But I now thank God for His grace, that showed me I can begin again new and come live as He always intended for me. What about you? Do you want to trust and take God at His Word, more than you want to live in fear?
Let me be absolutely clear here, am I totally "fixed" and live a perfect fearless life? No, absolutely not, just ask my husband; but I am on a journey that is leading me day by day, step by step, of how to be and do what God wants, not what my fleshly self wants, and this overcomes fear every time. It is so much more than I ever believed possible, because it is all about Him and not me. You can do the same as well.
So my prayer right now is that as you begin the journey to first seek the Word of our God; where you will see how God weaves our paths, not by chance, but by perfect order, and how He completes in us, when we allow Him to invade our very inner being, an intentionally purpose filled life, without fear, filled with hope, joy, peace and contentment.
