TITLE: I'm afraid of spiders | Previous Challenge Entry

I hear a little scratching, then before my very eyes ~
A very large and hairy one, appears above my head
Just as I am dropping off to sleep upon my bed!
When I was a little girl I’d check under said bed,
Not for hidden spiders’, but the “Bogey-man” instead.
I'd look inside the wardrobe to see if he was there,
And don’t know what I would have done, if he’d given me a scare
I wasn’t keen on “Doctor Who”, particularly Daleks,
And hid behind the sofa, trying not to wet my “knicks”.
I didn’t like my head to go underneath the water,
As I nearly drowned at Sidmouth, but Mother saved her daughter.
Then there are the Dentists! But I’ve made peace with them,
And now happily go for, my twice a year examine.
You’ll think that I’m a scaredy-cat, frightened of my shadow,
But one or two things I do well, I’ve conquered fear somehow.
Although a little nervous, I speak before a crowd,
I’ve done rock-climbing and abseiling, two things of which I’m proud.
Fear is not a bad emotion, it helps keep us secure,
It stops us doing careless things, which may harm or injure
Let fear be a servant not master, a bell inside our heads,
Is there a very real danger, or just a scared feeling instead?
There’s a world of excitement and discovery, awaiting each of you,
Though you may be a little nervous, with something that’s brand new.
But when you come upon the chance to try, to work, to do,
Seize upon it with both hands, all your long life through.
From one who started nervously, I say “Go with the flow”
And my very best advice to you, is “Go on, and have a go!”
