Rose and Ted Johnson both sat in deep contemplation on the front porch of their home. Their thirteen year-old granddaughter, Beth, was sleeping peacefully upstairs, as was Lisa, their adopted granddaughter. Rose and Ted had raised Beth since she was two years old due to the mysterious disappearance of her parents. At that time, the Johnson’s daughter, Allison and her husband, Jim, had been visiting Rose and Ted for a few days. They had come to share the good news - Allison was once again pregnant! Rose could still see Allison as she and Jim walked out the door. “We’re going for a walk, mom. It’s such a beautiful day! Beth is sleeping, but we’ll be back before she wakes up.” They never returned.
After a few months, the local police had all but given up. No one had seen Allison and Jim; their bodies were never found. Rose and Ted had been devastated. Beth had grown up looking upon her grandparents as the parents she never knew. Almost a year after the disappearance, Rose and Ted were still combing the area for their daughter and husband whenever possible.
One late afternoon, they were returning home from a walk with Beth when they heard what sounded like the silent roar of an engine. Suddenly, Rose let out a scream! Above the tree line, a round disk-shaped object lifted gently into the sky. Then, it was gone! The only sound that could be heard in the deserted area was the cry of a baby a few yards away. Ted grabbed Rose and Beth to himself. Shakily he said, “Rose, there is baby in the field right beside where that spaceship lifted off! I’m going to see if it is all right.”
“Oh, be careful Ted,” exclaimed Rose.
Ted moved closer to the child and called out, “She’s fine.” Gently he picked her up. They would find out later the baby was probably a few months old at that time.
Rose and Ted reported their “sighting” to the local police who disregarded it due to the stress the couple still endured over the disappearance of their daughter and son-in-law. Rose and Ted adopted the baby a few months later; they named her Lisa. Rose often wondered about the child. Why was she left in the middle of a field in this remote area? What was the relationship between Lisa and the spaceship, if any? The answer never came - until today.
Dr. Alberts, the girls’ physician, was amazed at their many similarities, both physically and emotionally, and suggested that a certain test be done. Now Rose and Ted sat side by side in disbelief. The report from Dr. Alberts, obtained earlier that day, sat open on Rose’s lap. Lisa and Beth had the same DNA!

Adding some dialogue between the grandparents might help your reader track plot and characters. The baby-rescue idea was a good common interest sparker. We all love the idea of being baby-savers.
Nice story!
