Topic: Write an INSPIRATIONAL or DEVOTIONAL piece (04/26/07)
In the heart of every young man and woman is a dream; a dream to achieve greatness and to be all of who you were born to be.

A dream is a picture in your heart of your future, a picture of the greatness you want to achieve. A picture of the things you want to do; how you plan to affect the lives of the people in your community; a picture of the impact you want to make in your world.

Dream big; set no limits to your dreams, because there is no penalty for dreaming and no restrictions to big dreams.

As long as you are alive, you have the right to dream.

But as much as you must have a dream, you must discipline your self in the direction of your dreams. A genuine dream will propel you to get an education and expand your horizons because you are the same person that you will be in ten years except for the books you read, the people you meet and the information that you access and receive; the words you speak and most importantly the dreams you are able to achieve.

You must invest in your personality.
You must build your mind, strengthen your character, refine your speech, expand your horizons and broaden your intellect in the direction of the things you seek to accomplish.
Life is a course you must study; it’s an exam you must write. To take advantage of the opportunities you seek - which will come definitely - you must have answers to the questions and solutions to the problems. This you will do by being adequately prepared for the future.

As long as you live, it is your right to dream, your right to desire a better life, your right to impact the lives of those around you with the investments you have made in your personality.

Greatness resides in your heart and your uniqueness is evidence to this fact; for nobody has the talents you possess, nobody can do the things you do the way you do it.
There is a place for you in this world and there is no better time than now; now that you are young and strong, there is no better time to build yourself, take initiative, employ the use of your intellect and seek ways to impact the lives of the people around you.
The future ahead is great and you are that future. Never forget it.

You must decide to win, you must say yes to progress and victory. Rather than meander in the maze of mediocrity, sit down and think. Let your dreams present you with all the possibilities. Once you put your mind to it, the opportunities will come, believe me.
Remember, it all starts with a dream; you will achieve it if you dare to dream it.
May the love of God be the wind beneath your wings, may His strength propel you to your great destiny, may faith be your light and courage your guide. May the grace of God always be by your side.

Lots of good motivation here--I wish I could get my student (mostly high school seniors) to believe this!

Try to avoid familiar phrases--you've used "you are the future" and "wind beneath your wings" and several others that people may tend to gloss over. A topic like this needs fresh ways of expression.

I can just see parts of this on one of those inspirational posters with gorgeous nature photography...very lovely.
