Let’s examine some imaginary Christians who really strive to be pleasing to God.
First, let’s meet Mr. Jay Frugal. Mr. Frugal watches his family’s budget closely to provide a good life for them. He sees that every bill is paid on time, car & home maintenance planned for, food clothes and entertainment included. On Sunday morning he looks at his bank account to decide what can go to God of what’s left.
Mrs. Prissy Proverb is always doing good. Why she’s the perfect Proverbs 31 lady. She rises early to make breakfast, dress kids for school, and is off to her office job. On her lunch break she jogs for half an hour then visits with her co-workers. Not once does she ask them to come to worship. When she gets home she cooks supper, washes clothes, bakes a mix cake for the church potluck on Sunday and puts it in the freezer. Then she watches the latest video release. Some time around midnight she drags into the bedroom, remembers her Bible on the shelf and reads a verse or two through tired eyes and wandering thoughts. Satisfied that she’s done all her duty that day she falls asleep.
Mr. Busy Pedagogue works 60 hours a week. He prides himself in getting as much as possible done each day. His garden is the best in the neighborhood. He goes to all the little league games with the kids and sees that poor kids can have uniforms so they can play too. Saturday is spent on house repairs, car repairs, repairs for other people. He even manages to teach a young people’s Bible class on Sunday. Of course, with all this activity he rarely gets to look at the lesson until late Saturday night. He’s so witty that he knows the kids will hang on his every word.
You be the judge. Did any of these characters follow the admonition to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven? Were they giving their best to the Lord?

It might be more effective to alternate each "character" with a verse or two commenting on their behaviors and motives. Not all of your readers will look up the verses, but they'll read them if they're incorporated into the text.
