Topic: Write an INSPIRATIONAL or DEVOTIONAL piece (04/26/07)
In our lives there are many hills and valleys for us to walk through. Sometimes there are mountains looming in the distance with thunderclouds hanging over them. Often we walk timidly in the valleys in fear of something awful waiting to sneak upon us. The hills are much too steep in our perspective, we are certain we will never get over them. Every direction we gaze upon there are questions and uncertainty, we wonder what our purpose here could possibly be. Our faith is not strong enough to carry us forward with confidence and our steps are not steady. The ground we walk upon has cracks and crevices making us live in fear of falling into the unknown. We are easily shaken by words spoken to us by others in times of despair. This causes us to misjudge ourselves and doubting thoughts run amuck in our heads. Our hearts are aching for something more solid to believe in. We search every nook and cranny of our being just to find that we ourselves do not hold the keys to open any glimpse of a future by ourselves.

This is where salvation enters in. Being able to grasp at something solid and real floods our inner self with hope and relief. Just by opening the Bible and pondering on the workings of Christ alone are enough to get our hearts pumping with excitement. When we begin to believe in the higher power which created us we start to see a future. We at last can see a light in the fog that encircles our waking moments. Life begins to have meaning and we can connect the dots from one event to another visualizing Gods’ working in our lives as well as the people who surround us. Nothing is more comforting than realizing we are not alone. Somewhere out there is another person who has walked the same hills, fallen in similar valleys and lived through the extreme mountain thunderstorms. Yes God is working on each of us this very moment. Even as I write this the electricity flowing to my fingers carries me into a deeper understanding of what purpose we have here and what impact even just simple words strung together with love can make on another soul.

I thank God for the ability to convey my thinking by translating them into words others can understand. This ability is not something I just decided to pursue on my own I had several pushes from God. I truly believe God gives each of us at least one talent to use towards bringing people into His kingdom. I am so honored mine is writing. Sharing my wonderful journey with the Lord with others is a very heart warming experience. Sometimes I feel so compelled to write I can’t stand it, these are the times when I know for certain I am not the one writing the words. If I can touch the heart of at least one person with the words I put on paper my soul will rejoice with gladness knowing God has used me as an instrument in His plans for mankind.

Today my hope is together we can climb the mountains and survive the storms. I will gladly walk the valleys with you and hold your hand. I will trudge up the hill and then rejoice with you when we return from our travels. My desire is that just by reading this you may be inspired to learn your God given talent and start using it today to help someone in need. It’s very simple to acquire, just take it to the Lord in prayer. Share with Him your dreams of helping Him accomplish His work here on earth. Once you discover your talent, USE IT. Don’t be shy. It has taken several years of prodding to get me where I am today in sharing my journey. There is a purpose for you and I being where we are right now. God knows exactly why we are here and He will guide us along if only we stop and ask for directions.

Lots of really good imagery in this devotional.

Perhaps the longer paragraphs could be broken into somewhat shorter ones, to improve the pace of your piece.

This is a very good and timely article. There are some punctuation flaws, but the story as a whole is very good.
