Topic: Write in the ROMANCE genre (04/19/07)
Romance Starts in the Morning.

9:07 pm. March 2, 2007 Great kiss.
Awesome kiss.
Chin cupped tenderly in rough fingers.
Gently tucking her hair back, his touch lingers.

6:30 pm. Without being asked he clears the dishes.
It is always one of her wishes.
His hips nudge hers as he hands her a knife.
He smiles and whispers “glad you’re my wife”.

4:30 pm. Home early for a Friday.
Usually hard to get away.
Plays with the kids while she cooks in peace.
The stress of the day she begins to release.

1:00 pm. Lunchtime call.
Just wants to know how she’s doing and all.
It still makes her grin to hear his voice.
Little things remind her she made a good choice.

8:00 am. Makes the bed, starts a load.
She’s blessed this is his usual mode.
Before he leaves a meaningful goodbye.
A hug and a squeeze her grateful reply.

7:00 am. He let her sleep in.
Kept the kids quiet, they wonder where she’s been.
Pours her coffee, sets out her pills.
Breaks up the children’s battle of wills.

September 2, 1991 Ugh Pre-Marriage Class.
Both of them agreed they’d rather pass.
One wisdom they held on to “romance starts in the morning.”
They are both so glad they heeded this warning.

Different approach. Starting with the ending, leading to the beginning. I think I might have liked it to start in the beginning of the day and worked up to the night. But that's just me. The last paragraph is exactly where it should be. This is very good, in spite of my preferences.

I loved this piece.
It's a beautiful reminder of the 'every day' kind of romance, the stuff that keeps love strong, like doing dishes, and keeping kids quiet. Practical things, not just the 'sweet nothings' of romance.
