Clink. Instantly my eyes glanced down to the bottom of the bath tub. Through the haze of the steam I could barely make it out. Instantly, I felt my finger. Sure enough, nothing was there. Staring up at me was my loyal ring, with the beloved cross symbol, smiling up at me. It teased me. I could almost see it dance around. It seemed to say … “Well what are you standing there for? Pick me up and place me back on your finger where I belong.”
Carefully placing it back on my index finger, I remarked, “And just why you decided to take a dive in the tub is beyond me. What if I had not seen you? I would really miss you.”
With no response from my silent partner, I realized my fingers were not as puffy as they had been for sometime, allowing my ring to slide right off and go on a brief adventure.
Several days passed. Seemingly my friend was safely in place, but I soon realized my beloved was gone. “Oh, no. Where are you now?” My heart felt sickened at the thought that it might be gone forever this time. I had no idea where or when it went missing.
Tears filled my eyes as I whispered to God, “Lord, you know I don’t hoard that ring for earthly value, as there is none. Remember, I bought it as a souvenir when my grandson finished his basics into the air-force as a reminder of his bravery and mostly a deep remembrance of you. The crosses on it are witnesses for you. Please help me find it.”
Carefully searching every nook and corner in the house and car there was no ring to be found. All kinds of imaginations ran wildly through my thoughts. I may have lost it at the grocery store, the post office, or in the mall. Breathing another prayer to the Lord, I relaxed and accepted the Lord’s will.
When evening came, I thought maybe I lost it in the bed. My husband, Tommy, helped me carefully turn the bedding back to see if it was caught in the sheets. Of course, there was no sign of it. Nowhere to be found! Finally, giving up, I went to sleep hoping somehow it would show up.
About three a.m. I felt restless; sleep came difficult to come by for some unknown reason. My body cried to get up, but I determined to remain in bed until the alarm sounded at my usual hour of 5:15.
The alarm jolted my raveled nerves. I sat on the side of the bed, something felt different. Really strange. My brain’s grogginess couldn’t quite focus on what. Not believing what I felt on my index finger, I exclaimed, “How in the world…I can’t believe it. How did that get on my finger? It dawned on me that there was only one way it could be on my finger. I never got out of the bed until now. Um-mm-mm.”
After careful consideration I knew without any doubt where it came from. “Thank You, Lord,” I gratefully whispered.
As I became fully aware that it was real and not a dream, I spoke excitedly, “Hon, Hon, wake up! Look on my finger. It’s my ring. I don’t understand how this could happen, but I’m grateful to the Lord for it. Isn’t it exciting?”
As my love realized what I told him, he sat up. “How did that happen? Did you get up and find it somewhere?” he asked excitedly.
“Haven’t a clue one. All I know is that it wasn’t there when we went to bed. You helped me pull the covers back, and we both searched for it. There is no logical explanation, but there is a love explanation.”
“Yes, I remember. But how …who…?” he mumbled in a vague voice.
Shrugging my shoulders I mumbled in a choked voice… “It had to be the Lord. There is no other way. Have you ever seen anything so mysterious?”
“All I can say is the Lord must love you a whole, whole bunch!”
“He does, why I don’t know. But I am so thankful He loves me.”
