I went in to look at the material and saw the price. It was expensive, but worth it, but not today. I would have to wait until I got paid.
As I turned and ran into a man. He was tall, blond and smiling. “Sorry,” I said
“No problem.” The man had held out his hands to stop me from stumbling.
I headed back to work. I had felt a little flustered after meeting the blond man. He was handsome but nothing like Mark. Mark had dark skin, from his mother, and dark hair with green eyes. We saw each other every week at church.
The I dreamt of the blond man. I saw him sewing a magnificent dress in the rose satin. I woke with a smile on my face as I had had when I apologised for running into him.
At work I kept imagining the dress I was going to make. I kept thinking about the dress in the dream that the blond man had been sewing, that was the dress I wanted. It would look wonderful with my long dark hair.
That evening I went to a prayer meeting. I saw Mark sitting with some of his friends. I was too shy to sit with him, so I sat by myself. I wasn’t watching the door when a blond man came in. I didn’t realise until he sat next to me.
I glanced up and thought. What was he doing here and how come I had never seen him at church before? Jacob the group leader introduced the blond man as Daniel, a student at the local arts college. I glanced at his hands and noticed the way they cradled the Bible.
He opened his Bible and I realised I had drifted off in my thoughts. I found the passage and tried to keep my mind on the message and the prayer requests. I closed my eyes as they prayed. I heard Daniel’s heartfelt prayer in his fervent voice, and I felt like I was right in God’s throne room. As the group echoed Amen, I silently agreed.
The next day went quickly and at lunchtime I rushed to the sewing store I couldn’t want to get the rose satin. It would look perfect. I entered the store and walked to wear the rose satin was. I picked up the roll and went to the table for the lady to cut lengths. I asked for six metres and you can imagine my dismay when only 3 metres were rolled out. There wasn’t enough material for my dress. It was the only roll of rose satin in store. I left without the material. I left work early disappointed. I noticed a sign advertising a showing of students’ projects. I knew Daniel could possibly have a painting there.
I walked in and saw two sculptures done by an Asian man. I walked through; I didn’t see any paintings or drawings with Daniel’s name on them. I saw some dresses, all designed by first year design students.
I wandered around and turned the corner and saw the rose satin dress, the same one I had dreamed about. I walked to the dress and I saw the name Daniel Sterling. He had named his dress. ‘Vision of perfection.’ The dress was perfect
I was studying the dress when I noticed someone watching me through the other side of the glass enclosure. I glanced up and saw Daniel’s face. He walked over to stand beside me and I held my breath. “Hello Denise, I hoped I could show you this dress one day.”
“You know my name? How?”
“Don’t you remember the promise we made in 3rd grade? The promise to one day go out together. I saw you two days ago. All of that day I designed this dress, I want you to have it after the display is over.”
“But Daniel...”
“Do you believe dreams can tell the future?”
“I dreamt of you in this dress. We were at a wedding together.” I gasped and felt myself melting into his embrace.
Six weeks later I was sitting next to Daniel. I was captivated by Daniel the boy I had loved all my life.
