At this point my sister walked in and tears start to come down her face. She must had seem it before; but why did no one ever say a thing to me about it.
"I remember when Dad did this," she smiled and said.
"Dad sewed it?" I asked with a puzzled look on my face.
"I forgot you didn't know that Dad could sew; you were always under Mom. He enjoy sewing for us all. He made our clothes but he kept his sewing skill a secret because of what people would think about him," she said as the tears fell from her eyes.
"Why didn't Mom tell me? I thought that she made all my special dresses. I loved my prom dress which I thought that she stitch with love," I said as sadness began to fill my heart.
As memories of the special dresses that I gave my mother credit for buying, a deep pit fell in the bottom of my stomach. How could have done this to my father? I remember saying real bads things to him because I didn't think that he loved me. I remember my mother telling me that I would always be special to her but Dad thought I was too smart mouthed. Was I the problem that my parents had in their marriage? Did I side with my mother against my Dad?
My sister walked up to me and gave me a letter. I began to unfold it and notice that it was from my father. It said:
To my dearest daughter,
First of all, I want to tell you how my baby girl that I love you. Although we were not that close when you were growing up, that was not your fault. Never think that things that went on between your mother and I, were not your fault. You left before I could give you this quilt, that I sewed with love and tears. Tears because I should have tried hard and love because I have never stopped. I hope that you can forgive me and understand that there is no need for you to feel any regrets because you were the child and I was the adult.
I love you now and always, I hope that this quilt will cover with love and the warmed that I put in it.
love, Dad
Sometimes growing up you can put all your love into one parent and leave the other hanging. Try never judge your parent but what the other parent say. I know now that my father loved me more than I thought and ever knew.
I hold on to my quilt now knowing that my father was a man that loved each and everyone of us.
