God has greatly gifted us as the crown of His creation. How often do we use what He has graciously given us for His glory, however? If we are honest, we do not use what we have as much as we should to give our Creator praise and honor which He alone deserves.
For example, God has given us hands to make and create so many beautiful objects with paint, paper, clay, and even sawdust. When we make something with any of these items or with something else, do we say we want to see God glorified in this? How much care do we take in making something? For me as one who is blind, I have to use my hands very much to make some object and then trust others to tell me what something looks like. I take great care in what I make if given opportunity to make something like a pot. I use my hands to form the clay in the exact way I want it to appear when hardened.
God has given us other ways to make something beautiful. What about puzzles? I cannot really do puzzles but perhaps there is one available which a blind person could do and thus make. The finished product then becomes a masterpiece of creation. We can say to someone interested in what we do that we made this particular puzzle as an expression of God’s creative talent which He gave humanity. I can also do ceramics and have made objects including Christmas tree made with the material used for this. In a class at my church in Louisville in late 2004, I made with ceramics objects like statues of Jesus or a snowman, a candy dish, and last of all a Christmas tree. The objects were actually already made initially, so I had to carefully put coats of paint on the object I had in front of me and then had to wait for it to be fired so its beauty came forth. Years ago as part of summer school I did do more involved ceramics including making of vases.
In all this, I desire to use what God has given to me in making objects or painting them already made to illustrate God’s glory and to use what He gave me to honor Him. Is that not the way we should do with each gift the Lord God has given to us? When we make something whether small or big, let us always do this to honor the Lord God who gave these to us for enjoyment.
