An Annual Turning
On Tuesday evening, September 1, 1981 a tremendous event occured in my life. My next-door neighbor had come over to talk to me. We sat at my kitchen table and she patiently explained the Scriptures concerning why Jesus died on the cross. For the first time in my life, I saw myself as a sinner desperately needing salvation. My eyes were opened to what Jesus personally did for me! I knelt down on my kitchen floor and prayed for Jesus to save me and be the Lord of my life. I was turned from a child of hell to a child of God. My life changed direction! It was a true conversion experience!
I have made it a goal to remember this date every year. I put it on my calendar. I have sent cards or telephoned my neighbor who told me about Jesus. I remember to thank and praise the Lord for His wonderful mercy and grace to me.
The Lord spoke to me as I was writing this piece. I will always tell someone when it is my birthday or anniversary. I’d say, “Today is my birthday!” or “Our wedding anniversary is today!” The Lord said, why don’t you bring up your spiritual birthday? He challenged me to tell someone when that day happens, to say, “You know what today is? 24 years ago I was born-again!
Birthdays, weddings and other yearly occasions are all important to celebrate. But, that day when we were born-again should be our greatest yearly reminder!
May we not only remind ourselves every year of our great salvation, but also turn to the Lord each and every day and thank Him for it!
