The celestial being looked at the note again. “Gone Fishing!” he exclaimed. Some guardian angels have it real easy, he thought. Being guardian angel to a house help means work, work and more work. Well Victor can have all the fun if he wants to. I wonder where Eden could go fishing? There are no rivers nearby and besides his family is right here and it’s 6 am in the morning, Tal thought.
Eden slipped through the back door unnoticed and made his way through the back garden into the school campus. It’s a good thing our house is behind the school campus, if I hurry I can water my garden patch and then I can see if I can catch that big gold fish from the big fish pond. It will be so cool to take a gold fish to school.
Eden’s guardian angel, Victor did not enjoy his assignment of watching over this hyperactive and stuttering seven year old boy. Of all the things a child needs to do at six in the morning, here goes another day of flitting around trying to keep him from hurting himself, muttered Victor to himself.
Since Eden’s dad was the Warden of the Concordia High School; staff quarters within the school campus was Eden’s home. I hope I can grow the best garden patch in my class. This won’t take me long, he convinced himself. “All done, now for the gold fish,” he muttered as he raced towards the fish pond.
Before Victor realized, Eden was standing on the narrow slippery steps of the pond trying to trap the evading gold fish. Victor stopped in his track as a helpless scream filled the air. “Oh no, he’s fallen and he does not know how to swim,” panicked Victor. Victor dived in after the child hoping to save him from hitting the bottom. I need help, another human to help me, please Lord, send someone, prayed Victor.
‘Think of the angel’ and here he comes, accompanying Thambi, Tal was walking towards them. “Tal, quick, I need Thambi to help me, Eden has fallen into the pond, he can’t swim,” cried Victor. “I will dive in and try to lift Eden to the top of the pond, you help Thambi to lift him out of the water,” explained Victor hurriedly. With that Victor jumped into the water trying to find Eden again.
Tal managed to pull Thambi towards the pond. What’s that? wondered Thambi. It looks like a hand, oh my God, it’s somebody…it’s Eden, he exclaimed. “Eden! hang on, I’ll pull you out,” cried Thambi.
“Thanks again doctor,” said Mr. Joshua with a sigh of relief. “If your house help had been a second late you would have lost your son Mr. Joshua,” emphasized the Doctor. “It almost seems as if God had sent His angels to protect your son from death,” added the Doctor.
“You are right doctor, this morning when I was having my quiet time with the Lord, he led me read Psalms 121: 7,8.
“The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in.” (KJV)
“As I meditated on the verse and prayed for protection over my family; I heard Thambi rushing in with Eden’s limp body in his arms,” continued Mr. Joshua.
“At first I didn’t understand what had happened; my son keen on winning the garden patch award had tried to put in extra time secretly. Praise God for His protective power,” said Mr. Joshua.
Tal and Victor grinned at each other as they stood listening to the conversation of the human beings. Tal turning to Victor told him comfortingly, “Eden’s only seven, wait till he becomes a teenager, then your days will become even more exciting.”
