It was in a quiet solitary place, where my creative mind generally kicked into high gear. The deadline was vastly approaching, and I was getting to be a little anxious. So I drove to Three Lakes Park, my favorite writing spot. As I walked along the river bank, I could hear the birds singing so creatively. It seemed like they were whistling to the top of their voices. What a beautiful sound! There where blue ones, red ones, and yellow ones. I even saw a woodpecker and other fascinating birds. Oh my, what a scenery! It was peaceful and beautiful. In thirty days, my entry had to be submitted to the Richmond Artistic Exhibit. I was far from developing what I call an artistic creation. However, at last I’m thinking of million of ideas, but now I must choose the best one. Best one! What is that? I’ve often heard that, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. That popular saying is true. What I see as art might be garbage to someone else or vice versa. Oh yes, I almost forgot, at this exhibit, anything goes. So I can let my imagination run wild; that’s art.
Did I want to write, cook, or paint was the question? I thought to myself, “How can I combine all three arts into one beautiful creation”? Whatever direction I chose to go, it will definitely be a challenge.
As I narrowed down my ideas, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I said out loud, “I’ve got it, I’ve got it”. With much excitement, I grabbed my laptop and began to search my files for recipes. I could see it coming together now. I’m going to put these recipes in a recipe book and paint a design for the cover. Then I’ll have them in a nut shell, all three arts in one. Plus I’ll give out samples of my famous nugget chicken in my booth.
Who was going to taste test all of these recipes? Then I had another amazing idea. Here’s what I’ll do; I’ll bake one dish every day for thirty days. Out of thirty different dishes, I no there will be fifteen recipes for the book. The perfect title emerged, “Fifteen Easy Ways to Prepare Chicken”. My church has an open house group everyday of the month. Each one of the host, would be more than happy to test my dishes. At least, I believed they would be.
Robyn, the group’s coordinator, was overjoyed when she heard the good news. She said, “We will be happy to test your recipes in our groups”. We finalized all of the details, and I was off and running. Every dish turned out delicious. So I knew that the cook book would be a success, too. It was; I could have sold twenty more copies right then and there, had I brought them. Nevertheless, I told them, “You can order one off my website”.
Finally the entry day was here. Out of all the entries, no one did a recipe book like mines. Why not, because everybody has a different way of expressing themselves artistically? That’s what makes art creative. No two ideas are a like. If everybody created the same way, it would be a boring world. The Creator of all creator’s, is an artist. You can see His handy work all around us. Everyone who came into my booth commented about the unusual cover, the tasty samples, and creative writing style, a beautiful creation.
