What makes a servant’s calling clear?
Could it be the call of a Christian volunteer?
The spirit of love and unquestioned desire,
To heed God’s voice, sets his heart afire.
It’s not the glory, or thunderous applause,
Nor even the victory, for a Godly cause.
No! Not in the least, not at all,
A volunteered action is to stand or fall.
In the secret corner of a dim lit room,
In the noon day sun, or bushing a broom,
In the absence of man, or in the company of many,
A volunteer asks for not even a penny.
His servant’s reward is from God alone,
And his pat on the back, is for the good Lord to own,
When he smiles or cries, it is often for you,
The volunteer stays, when events are through.
You cannot pay him what he is worth,
You cannot, you see, in all of God’s earth,
Because he knows the secret, to the kingdom you see,
To be the servant of all is a king’s destiny!
A willing vessel, is the cupbearers place,
It’s a place of honor, often on his face,
Asking of God, for instructions clear,
Could this be the call… of a Christian volunteer?
