Open your heart and your home
Love me as your child
Forever call me your own
She offers a hand
And shakes no on her pretty head
A face full of makeup
Nails manicured with red
“I don’t have the patience.
Nor do I have the time
Or a heart of love.
To ever call you mine.”
Moments of unrelenting despair
Another unforgotten tear
Just another little girl
Left alone in the world out here
Will you be my mom
Be the one to teach me right from wrong
Show me how to hope and trust
To be the arms where I belong
The pain of rejection
Of hearing the answer no
No emotions, no feelings
I alone but know
Forgotten and unloved
So utterly alone
Will I ever have a mom
To ever call my own
She smiles and walks to me
Our day is setting in
My hand held tightly in her’s
As the judge announces the proceedings to begin
A piece of paper signed and sealed
This mom has just made a forever deal
She holds me close and whispers in my ear
“Today child I offer you all of my love
And all of my time.
For I have chosen you
And today you’re forever known as mine.”
