The unmeasurble glee at babies first steps. To hear them laugh, to nurture them when they cry. Stay up all night just to get by. Be good as they can be to receive the rewards they need. Open minds, with imaginations that run wild. Dreaming of what someday might be. A doctor, a nurse, a fireman or the police, they are all excellent dreams of what life may one day be. Learn to drive, learn to fly, live life without any alibis.
Go to school, get good grades, so one day into college they may stay. Thus off to school they go, as tears well in your eyes. First day, a day to remember, a day to let go. Little by little infancy disappears like the sunlit days when the moon begins to shine.
Try your best to make life count. Guide them to happiness so that heartache and pain will not catch up with them today. Teach them well, our future of the world is what your holding in your arms. Seeking, searching, pressing boundaries, finding out who they truly are. Then you begin to ask yourself “Am I doing my best? Am I trying my hardest? Will they one day be satisfied with what I did yesterday?” We look to our past for clues to the future. Read all of the books on how it should be. Will I one day be proud of what they have become, or sit in sorrow at what I've lost and cannot repay?
Then rebellion begins to set in. Is it here to stay? Will they resent me all day? Then we learn rebellion is like the night, and one day soon, the sun starts to break. The shell has been cracked. I see the light of day. Will one day come that I do not have to sit up all night worrying about there life to be? A knock at the door, a ring on the phone. Could it be my little love telling me there all right, or the police bringing news of a sad plight. Thoughts to painful to bear. “What did I do wrong? How can I turn the tide of today? What is the right way or is there even one today?”
Growing up in this evil world, drugs, alcohol, rebellion, homosexuality, bombardment of sin to lure our children away. We stand in the gap. Hoping to protect today from evil's claim tomorrow. Will it work? Will it sustain? Can we be all that and claim our children today?
Suddenly ten years have got behind you. You look around and the day is fading fast as they inch towards the sky. Soon your baby will be gone. No time to snooze. Seize the day. One day soon an empty nest will loom.
We cannot change the past. We cannot foresee the future. Who holds the key to the right way it should be? The ultimate question “How to raise them well?”
Love them well, hold them dear. Teach them the Word to secure their world. Hold out the bad, let in only the good. Fear God, love thy neighbor. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Bring consequences for wrong. Accept them as they struggle to break out of there shell. But most of all, love Jesus with all your heart and teach your kids to do the same. When they grow up, pray harder than you ever did today and with blessings from above, light will shine through the darkness. They will find there way and this world will not capture them today!
The heartache, the pain. The satisfaction you gain.. In the end all we have is memories lost remains. When does it begin and when does it end? We laugh, we cry, we wait and stand by. Always learning, always yearning, reaching out for one last try, we press on.
