Her physical form seems so small – so infinitely precious. Her chocolate brown eyes, always shining with love, are closed – the lines in her beautiful brow have somehow melted away. Her skin is soft and milky – her quick sweet smile is gently quiet. Her simple gold wedding band is loose on her faithful hands …. serving, artistic, creative hands ….
..O Father where do I begin … how can I ever put into words what those hands mean to me – to countless others – or to You? …
Courageous spirit – whose hands never seemed to tire in blessing, in service, in hospitality, in loving – how can such small hands have accomplished so much over all these years? – her hands, held up to her Father over many decades – faithful warrior in prayer for those she loved, and for whom He sought – such strong hands, so still now – yet still responding to the pressure of my fingers – to the voices of her children and grandchildren …
… how many grandchildren really Father? – thousands and thousands … all over the world .. You know the food parcels – the beautiful handmade garments – the financial support – the personal letters of encouragement to your servants abroad – the school children she loved and taught about You – the food she lovingly and bountifully provided … Father You guided her hands and heart in service through all her years … You saw … You alone know …
She is a true lady of grace – shaped and moulded – taught and led, by her Father’s example – with desire to love Him and bring Him joy. Wartime and peace – lack and plenty – bitter times and sweet times – through disappointments, sorrows, challenges, tears, heartache – in fellowship, friendships, laughter and fun times – sickness and health – dark times and times of blessing …. how she clung to, and learned from – her Father. She told me she “would, when she could no longer hold on, fly .. through Christ, to hide within her Father’s heart”….
Unconditional love – she learned at Your feet Father – great mercy – joy in giving, wonderful humour – sensitivity to, appreciation for, and ability with – the written word ….
O Father – her beautiful script on the front of many a looked-for envelope containing a letter from her heart to her children – to this child – when far away from home and in trouble – having wandered from You, my mother’s Father – trying to find my way – to understand that You could be MY Father too….
I watch her – I feast on my last moments looking at her beautiful earthly face – I know the angels surround her – waiting to escort this precious daughter to her Father’s house – I know she will, amidst great joy and gladness, be welcomed there .. fly dearest Mother..fly to Him ...
Father – I thankyou that You and I found each other .. I thankyou You are my ultimate parent – my Father and my Mother – with You I can have a complete and purposeful life … I saw You – and sought You – because I saw my Mother …
How rich her legacy of grace! How blessed am I! How blessed are mine!
