As I go into a world full of lost and hopeless souls
That depend on material things
to make them whole
A chaotic place, a place with no peace
A place that has almost given in to defeat
A place that’s alone despite all the faces
A place that is empty despite the dreams it chases
The people there are hurting, broken, alone
There’s no accountability at the place they call home
They search their souls for a place of hope
Some seem to find it in the weed they smoke
But they know it’s not real
They know there’s much more
I know, Lord , that I have
What their looking for
But I can’t tell them
My hands are tied
The government won’t let me
Help them heal from the inside
They’ve taken our prayers
And called them offensive
“One nation under God”
Makes them apprehensive
Lord, I pray as I go into this room to teach,
That my quiet testimony is more than I could preach
And I pray, Lord, when they see me
That they’ll ask me why.
Despite all the turmoil, I have peace inside
Let me tell them, during their math lesson,
Without saying a word.
Let me tell them that with you,
They still have their worth.

One mistake I noted was the use of "their" for "they're" in the line, "What their looking for." It's the teacher in me! :)
Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking piece on the difficulties of sharing God in a secular setting. I'm glad you showed that our lives can be a testimony, though! It reminds me of the saying, "Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary, use words!"
