None to teach?
None to lead?
“I once was blind but now I See” Amazing Grace
True enough. Jim once wallowed about his way in the thick of black, grasping at all matter of false hood in hopes to find truth. A truth he can be content with. But than truth is subjective. Is it not? But that is not so. Jim knows that now
Great multitudes of sheep line up side by side, row by row, blindly they follow. Abiding only to the voice of the shepherd. See how they march without purpose, without ears to hear, without eyes to see. Void of so much. Are they void of rational thought too? Can they not see the intent of he who leads?
Jim was once among them and knows all too well the nature of he who blinds the minds of unbelievers. But how will they know? An act of kindness? Yes, it was a simple act of kindness done in the name of Jesus Christ that plucked Jim from the sting of certain death. It was that act of kindness that produced in Jim a desire to hear all that Mike Lawson had to say. Mike was a man that Jim had not known before that ordinary day, when Jim had ordinary car trouble. When something completely out of the ordinary occurred.
Jim stood dumbfounded, with hood open gazing upon an engine ceasing to function.
“Let me see if I can give you a hand there buddy.” This stranger said announcing his presence and willingness to help
“Um…sure thanks…I think it might be the motor.” Jim said trying to hide his ignorance of all things mechanical.
“Not a problem at all. My name is Mike by the way”
They shook hands and exchanged pleasantries
Mike arrived well prepared with toolbox in hand and bible in pocket. He Identified the problem just by looking at the engine and went right to work with such rapidity Jim was quiet impressed. But alas’ it was a trying problem that may take longer than desired to correct. But this proved not to detour or discourage Mike
“When I saw you on the side of the road the spirit of God told me to stop and help.”
Oddly enough this did not surprise Jim. You see over time seed has been planted in his heart and watered time and time again. But what finally led Jim to open his heart to Jesus was because Mike mixed his acts with his words. He did not make broad statements that sound good to the ears but prove to be void of meaning and substance with none to teach and bring to understanding.
The spirit of the living God took Mike over.
Mike took Jim through the gospels and taught him not only that Jesus was crucified, but why. Not only that Jesus loves him, but why. He explained the wages of sin being death and the gift of God being eternal life in Christ Jesus (Rom 6:23 NIV) in a matter so powerfully inspired that Jim cried when he kneeled to pray.
Jim gave his life to Christ that day on the side of the road. With his newfound faith came a God-given desire to learn. Now seeing the need that truly the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few (Matthew 9:37 NIV) has given Jim commission to teach, with a deep rooted faith that God will lead them
The shepherd the masses follow is no shepherd at all. But rather a delusion. And now Jim understands that it is his duty as a born-again Christian not only to show the way by any means possible, but to teach
“Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:7-11 NIV)
