put down her dish towel, giving full attention to her friend, Kathy.
Kathy began to share about what was happening in her life. The choices she
had made in her life gave fruit to who she was today. As Kathy continued
to weave the story of what was happening. Sally’s mind was pulled back to a conversation they had twenty years before.
“I was praying this morning, that you would call me. Your roommate told me you
moved out and got married!” Sally sputtered into the phone, when she heard
the voice of one of her students. College campus ministry was a role she had chosen many years before. Having been taught, in training, to never be surprised by what students told her. This particular student had been struggling with sin in her life.
Her current boyfriend had different beliefs, than her upbringing had taught her. To no avail; she felt that God would honor their love.
“I’m pregnant!” Kathy’s muffled response gave evidence that tears were beginning to flow. Remembering those words, and that moment, made Sally’s head reel.
Brought back to the present day conversation, Sally began to listen. “And how is God blessing you?” she asked. Realizing through her daydreaming she had missed the crux
of their conversation.
Kathy told her how she had been asked to teach Sunday school. How she was leading a
Women’s prayer group. And other ways she was involved in her church.
As Sally listened, she realized her ministry had come full circle. A student, she had mentored twenty years ago, had finally come to a place where God was using her for his kingdom.
