Rend the night over the death of yet another son.
Senseless, cruel, too young.
In the spiral of vehemence, acid, and tumult
Where value is measured in tags and colors
And not by aspirations and dreams.
Blood in the gutter.
In the desperate hours,
Is there any hope?
In alleys where the contents of unemptied dumpsters putrefy in the afternoon swelter
Of a concrete menagerie as the line between death and dying is ever blurred.
Gruesome, cadaverous, haunting eyes.
In a mill where the grist of humanity is chewed, ground, devoured.
Bone, flesh, and sinew shatter
And the spirit as endlessly hunted.
Shadows ever creeping.
In the breech of faith,
Is there any hope?
In the parched and empty reservoir of an uncontested, unyielding soul
Where ragged wolves scavenge the final droplets of life.
Broken and bleeding.
Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?
A crust scattered in the dirt.
Consumed by ravens.
It is finished.
In the bleakness of eternity,
Is there any hope?
"Go into all the world..."
