"Thank you Lord, that even you make people and their problems your priorities; I'm following in your footsteps. They seem to have an awful lot of problems, though!
"Father, you know who will be in church on Sunday and what they need to hear. I pray that you would lead me in what I say, so that each of them may have a fresh insight from You."
The phone started to ring in the dining room, and George heard his wife answer it. Before he got any further, she poked her head around the door.
"Sorry love, but Andrea Yays is on the phone for you."
The pastor followed her back through to the dining room and took up the receiver.
Not too long afterwards, George walked into the kitchen thrusting his arms into his coat. "Andrea's son was taken into hospital this afternoon, and I'm going over to see him. I'll be back soon." He smiled goodbye and closed the back door behind him.

Less than twenty minutes down the road, David Ramley had recently settled the children into bed. Now he frowned at the page in front of him as he tried to concentrate on it. There were ups and downs with reading through the Bible, and so far he had not got much out of Exodus. He read on slowly.
"And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun."
David could just imagine Moses, the great leader, standing on the crest of the hill, his arms outstretched, as if he were imparting a blessing on the people beneath him. Suddenly, he no longer saw Moses, but George, his pastor and a spiritual leader to many, stood in his place, with his hands raised against the armies of the Amalakites. On either side of him stood a young man, ready to hold up George's hands should they grow weary.
David stared at the page. Perhaps Exodus wasn't just a historical account; he felt as if he had received a challenge. "Lord," he asked, "How can I hold up George's hands?"
He was silent for a while before he smiled and quoted to himself a verse he had memorised not long before. " 'Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens,' Lamentations 3:41."
He bowed his head.
