A slow current swirls gently along the shoreline, following the path of least resistance. The morning sunrise sparkles across the eastern horizon riding the cool, dark surface. The air is still and fresh. The cheerful sound of morning is heard as birds sing out both near and far away. A chipmunk scampers along, darting from beneath a bush, scaling a fallen tree, and disappearing amongst the golden leaves.
The only evidence of civilization is detected in the steady hum of a small outboard motor. Its low, fading volume indicates that it is far off and moving upstream. Serenity is in the seeing. Peace is in the hearing. Canada’s glorious French River; could this be a glimpse of what heaven is like?
The fingerprints of God are hidden in details. How mighty. How majestic. How wondrous in our Creator Who displays His glory in an array of fashions! His hand has planted very seed. His voice has commanded beauty to spring forth. His spirit has created life and eternal existence. His presence is discovered in the stillness. His faithfulness is declared with the dawning of day. His mercy rides upon the morning, piloted by grace and truth. At the river’s edge, I am reminded once again. God is love.
