To live everyday thinking that I know
What’s what.
I know the appearance
I am supposed to portray.
I am a one of those people.
I show up every Sunday morning.
Even play up on the stage.
Lift up my hands.
Sing, clap, and know every clique.
Here’s the question I’ve just learned to ask.
What does it all mean anyway?
You see I fell from a pedestal.
I thought my appearance was more important
Than what was in my mind.
I found out that
what is inside me is more important than
all the right words I know how to say.
I fell flat on my face.
In all my failure, I found grace.
I’ve recently been introduced to the cross.
The cross is where I lay down all my disfigurements,
Those failures I was sure I’d never overcome,
And I am free.
The cross represents a debt paid.
One day I found out
That I can worship in silence and
In awe more effectively than with empty words.
I hang onto grace.
I hang onto the cross.
I know what it means
To find out I really don’t know anything.
I know what it means
To fall on my face, by grace,
At the cross.
