Looking up to heaven above…
I wonder how it can be…
How is it possible for Him to love…
A flesh filled cesspool like me…
For in my flesh is no good thing…
It stinks, and is rotten to the core…
Yet the angels did sing…
As my flesh it did bring,
My knees, down onto the floor…
For that old rugged cross…
Spoke to my heart…
Yet nary a word… did it say…
Yet I humbled myself there on that floor…
And I began to pray…
My life it was a total mess…
I had no where else to go…
And though what I saw as being worthless…
The Lamb began to mold…
He started changing my life on that very day…
and it continued to change…
Until I had to have, my own childish way…
Through many a toil, trial, and fear…
My Savior did remain true…
It has taken many a year…
For my flesh, to the cross became glued…
I had to learn to climb on that cross…
To crucify my flesh
To die to myself would only help…
To stay on that cross, without coming off…
This was a new kind of test…
Then one day resurrection came…
Off of that cross I was never the same…
No longer did death hold the keys to my heart
For I was given a brand new start…
Twas Jesus who came down off that cross instead
And that was why I was no longer dead
I took off the grave clothes that held me behind
And dressed in a robe that was clean and white…
For then I knew it couldn't be done
Without the shed blood of God's only Son…
Nailed to that cross on that day long ago
He set me free and told me to GO…
To spread the news about His life
His death, resurrection, and His sacrifice…
