The small group of believers started to pour out of the cars and head off to their favourite spot in the park. This was not their first time they had gathered like this and it was certainly not going to be their last.
Every month the string of cars became a little longer, more hearts of compassion joining theirs. The excitement was building.
They slowly reached their final destination and from that spot you got a perfect view over the entire valley below.
The tropical vegetation seemed to have the entire mountain in a tight grip but had lost its hold on the more tamed vegetation below.
Close to one hundred years ago many trees had been logged and uprooted down there to give way to cattle and crops. Back then most of the people down there in the valley were farmers, growing bananas or pineapples.
Only pioneers would have been adventurous enough to come here and must have had a strong pioneering spirit to stay. They had been willing to make sacrifices, sometimes risking everything, even their lives.
People here must have been brave since the nearest settlement was possible one day’s horse ride away and longer if it had been raining. They had to learn to stick together and help each other in times of trouble like in a storm or a ‘bush fire’ as they call in here in Australia.
Still, standing today in some deserted fields you can spot their old church buildings, long ago forgotten, weather beaten to pieces and roofs and windows gone. But they, the pioneers had trusted Him with their lives and their futures and slowly this valley began to prosper.
Today it is a highly sort after place to call home.
Doctors, newsreaders and athletes together with the more ordinary crowd lives here in homes that could have been featured in any glossy home magazine. Week ends are spent looking after the manicured gardens and taking the children to ballet lessons and sporting events.
How life in the valley has changed.
Two generations apart, living two worlds apart.
Life should be happier here now.
The hard work has been done. Families don’t loose their children due to lack of food anymore even though there has been no decent rain here for over 305 days so far.
Instead families loose their children to other things just as heartbreaking – suicide, drugs and reckless driving just to name a few.
Life should be easier here now.
Families with twelve children is unheard of today, but even with only a few children and everything so picture perfect on the outside, the parents can hardly cope and divorce is common.
It is certainly dry in this place, both in the natural and in the spiritual right now.
Many have joined the dark forces and many are getting deceived by that dark light.
Signs of their existence are easily seen around the area and growing steadily. They have even opened a private school to cater for their believes and many are drawn to send their kids there. Even the local paper is filled with advertising to join them in all sorts of ways.
Nevertheless, a small remnant of believers have been praying for years. Some more than others, but still, hearts have been moved for this place.
Hope is building again. Excitement is growing as they stick together more and more.
They remind themselves about their pioneering forefathers and their faith.
Something is about to happen, something big.
They sense it as the night goes black around them and the lights below starts to flicker brighter. God has not forgotten about this place, He has heard every prayer that ever has been spoken over these mountain hills, creek beds and plains.
With hands stretched out towards those below, prayers are once again flooding the valley from their hearts and lips. Prayers of blessings and prayers of hope and life will never be without fruit and soon, once again this valley will prosper.
