Sometimes I wonder
Would life not be easier
If You could not exist?
If, like an unbeliever,
I was free to wander
As unfettered mist.
No rules nor rejection
No quest for perfection,
Live and let live.
Heart never need breaking
Asleep, never waking,
With nothing to give.

In anguish every moment
I feel so impotent
Against a world of sin.
To Hades, pain, death
Are souls condemned, bereft,
And my lot to win?
My heart and my will
Oft unyielding, never still,
I yearn to shed.
God, You must be;
Reign, then, over me
Or let me be dead.

Hush soul! Be still, and know,
God alone is in control.
He holds the book of life.
Mighty One with power to save,
Ruling over death and grave,
Victorious in strife.
Blinded eyes, muted tongue,
Where I am weak, He is strong,
In this is my release.
Out of nothing, all created,
Redemption anticipated,
He is our lasting Peace.
