Encouragement
The car is beginning to feel warm, almost sticky inside so I turn the key on and roll the windows down just enough to let some of the cool spring breeze in. It is probably sixty-five degrees outside on this beautiful day in mid April. I am sitting in the car while my daughter is in the cell phone store looking for a new phone, her nine month old daughter asleep in her car seat. We are sitting in the parking lot of the store, which overlooks the busy 6 lane street that is surrounded by a large mall and several shopping centers.
This being a Christian article website, you might wonder how all this ties in with God but I do believe you can see the hand of God in everything, even this waiting.
My focus is suddenly drawn away from writing this for a moment as an eighteen wheel truck hits his air brakes right in front of where my car sits, on the six lane street. I look up and see that there will be no impending crash; it’s just a delivery truck pulling into the parking lot of one of the shopping centers. Anyway, back to waiting and heaven…
I am waiting again; two days ago it was at the airport and now here in the car, the story of my life and everyone else’s life on earth. I am reminded:
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. Psalm 62:5 NKJV
This verse is one of many that remind me again that we are all in a process of waiting; some of us are waiting to grow up, waiting to marry, waiting for a job, waiting for children, waiting to fulfill a dream or vision but still we wait. We are like creation, in a perpetual state of waiting and groaning…
“For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now, not only that, but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.” Romans 8:22-23 NKJV
We know in the deepest part of our being that something lies beyond this world, someplace we were made for, a place designed for us to live in and be at peace. Heaven is real and a life spent with no separation from God is almost too much to fathom. I look at the very busy street in front of me and know that many of these people are very busy, the busyness being an effective mask to keep one from thinking about anything more than the day’s tasks. So I sit and the baby sleeps and I write and pray for I know we are closer to eternity than yesterday. No, I wouldn’t venture a guess to the day that Jesus is returning but still creation groans and aches and longs to be restored…to that place it was before. Time grows short so I will write and witness and live as Christ-like as I can so that I can bring as many people with me into His kingdom as possible…while I wait…
