THE TREE

A lovely tree grew in the forest. “The beasts of the field found shade under it, the birds of the heavens dwelt in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.” Its function had not changed since The Garden. But wicked and hateful hands took it and perverted its use. Gone was the shade, there was no more protection, and the fruit disappeared. It was cut and shaped to resemble a Man. The tree became a cross. Its sturdy fibers were splintered by nails, and its grain was stained by blood. God’s resources had never been so shamefully used, except that… God willed it. The tree was germinated and nourished for just this moment, to hold the Son of Man toward Heaven. “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”
