Saints! Let us be longing
For that secret day foretold
When for ever we’ll be joining
The Lover of our souls;
Be the trumpet’s blast awaiting
As praises overflow
With joy, anticipating
Him, whom our hearts well know.

Christians down the ages
Always held this promise dear,
Revealed in Scripture’s pages,
Though its timing was unclear;
They lived in expectation
That Christ would soon appear;
Filled with faith’s elation
They conquered death and fear.

Don’t be swayed by those who scoff
Who would this truth deny;
Though foolish men may laugh,
In man’s wisdom they rely;
But let your heart be stilled
In Him who dwells on high;
All His Word will be fulfilled:
Watch! Wait! Be on standby!
