THE VOICE by Sandra M. Schultz

You’ve heard it said that God moves in mysterious ways. Well I can attest to that fact. God has moved in my life in wondrous and miraculous ways. There are two incidences that stand out in my memory.

One day, I was driving home from work when a really big storm blew up. I was driving down the highway and the wind was blowing very hard. Trees were bending and branches were blowing all around. I said a prayer and asked the Lord for protection. Not long after that prayer I heard it. “The Voice” in my head said, “turn the wheel to the right, turn the wheel to the right”. Now I thought that I was cracking up or something. I thought why in the world am I thinking “turn the wheel to the right?” All the way home “The Voice” continued to play over and over in my head, like a broken record. I just could not seem to stop it. Well I did get home safely, and picked up my children. I was taking my youngest son to Cub Scouts. He was suppose to go fishing that night. By the time we got to Cub Scouts it had stopped raining, but we found out that they had already canceled the meeting that night due to the weather. I decided to go to the store to pay a bill. As I was driving down a road that had a lot of curves I started hearing “The Voice” again “turn your wheel to the right, turn your wheel to the right”. It just would not stop. Then, all of a sudden, IT HAPPENED! As I was going around the next curve, another car which was coming in the opposite direction crossed the middle line and was coming into my lane. Well, needless to say, I quickly turned my wheel to the right and just missed having a collision with the other car. God had been preparing me all along so that I could avoid hitting that car which possibly spared my life, my children’s lives and the life of the other driver.

The second instance happened when I was picking my oldest son up from work one night. My two younger children were sleeping and their father was in back in his workshop working. As I was walking to the door to leave my home, I had this strange feeling that “something” was going to happen. I just felt and uneasiness in my spirit. Then I heard “The Voice” again, only this time it prompted me to get my cell phone. So I grabbed my cell phone then said a prayer for the Lord to protect my home and children while I was gone and I asked God to send the angels out before me to clear a path of safety. I got in my truck and was going down the road. As I started to turn left to go up onto the highway, which was my usual route. I heard “The Voice” say “don’t go that way. So I turned right instead to go the other way, which is a little longer. I asked the Lord, OK Lord, is this me thinking this or are you trying to tell me something. I then reached down and turned on my Christian radio station. There was a Program on about hearing the voice of God. This was my confirmation, I knew that God was telling me that he was talking to me. I got to the mall and picked up my son. I started to get on the highway again when I heard “The Voice” say again, “don’t go that way” so I obeyed and went straight. A few minutes later, as I was turning left onto another road I saw a very disturbing sight ahead of me. There were three guys in the middle of the road with baseball bats beating up someone who was lying in the middle of the road. They were really hitting him hard. I stopped and another car that was coming in the opposite direction stopped. The guys got scared and ran off. I pulled into the store parking lot that was right next to me. As I was pulling into the parking lot, I saw the man who was getting beat up try to get into the other car that had stopped. I recognized him as a homeless man that I usually see in that area. The other car would not let the man in because he had small children in the car. I did not see where the man went after that. I called emergency and the police came. I waited in the parking lot until they got there. The other car was sitting in the lot too, waiting for the police. The police talked to us and got our statements about what we saw. They went over to the homeless man’s belongings, which were lying scattered in the middle of the road. A few minutes later the police came back a said they spoke with the man and he did not want to go to the hospital or press charges against anyone. Then the police officer said “it’s really remarkable, the man did not have one mark on him”. Now I know what I saw, those three guys were hitting him really hard with those bats. I really do believe that when I asked God to send the angels out before me to clear a path of safety, it was meant for this man. God had sent the angels before me and protected him and kept him safe from harm. It is totally miraculous that this man did not have one mark on him after I saw those guys beating on him. It’s a miracle that he even stood up after they ran off.

What an awesome God we serve!!

So the next time you hear “The Voice” in your head, don’t shrug it off. Ask God if it is him talking to you and directing you. It just might make a difference in someone’s life.

John 10:27 says “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
