Job's Sestina

For I know that my Redeemer lives!
At last He will stand upon the earth.
After my skin has been destroyed,
Then from my flesh I shall see God;
When my eyes shall behold, not another;
Within me how my quailing heart faints.

Running not weary, walking never faint;
Friend, such joy within my soul now lives!
Let us kiss, let us embrace one another;
We will dance together across the earth.
How mighty in all the world is our God!
The Lord's children can not be destroyed.

O death, O devil; wanton destroyers;
Your infernal voices have grown faint.
Think you equal to the Living God?
Know that He protects His children's lives.
Though you roam wide on the earth,
Seek not my soul; try perhaps another.

Each day dissolves, replaced by another;
Time itself is being eaten away, destroyed.
Like a worn garment is this bleached earth;
Mountains wear flat, rivers roar and then faint;
In a moment, all is changed - all that lives;
All, that is, except the great Jehovah God!

To Thee I lift my eyes O unchanging God;
Only You hold me in your arms, never another;
I will praise You through this eternal life;
I can be severely smitten, but never destroyed;
My voice though failing, my whispers though faint
Will yet proclaim your glory over all the earth.

I am a pilgrim on this wicked, weary earth;
I seek a path that leads to You O God;
Draw me on steadily, help me not to faint;
You are my first love; there isn't any other;
May my will wither; let it be destroyed;
In your servant's shell, may Your will live!

Evening sounds grow faint; quiet on the earth;
What are our lives except glory for You, O God?
And love for one another and hatred being destroyed.
