Many years ago
On a day much like today
A special man
Did a miraculous thing
He gave a special gift
That we’ll have for always

It wasn’t wrapped in pretty paper
No bows or ornaments adorned the top
In fact, it wasn’t even in a neat little package
No price tag to tell what was the cost

It was huge and cumbersome
It was of great weight in which he alone had to bear
He drug it behind him down the street
While others laughed and mocked
Not many seemed to care

He never waned; no not once
He was determined this gift to give
The authorities planted it between others
Knowing this great sacrifice must be hid

As the hours passed
His agony was great
His strength becoming weak
Caring for the ones on either side
Also nailed to a tree

He knew he was doing the right thing
For his Father had told him so
But would the people he loved so much
Understand what he had given

The man was Jesus
God’s only son
Who hung on a cross between two thieves
His gift to us was giving his life that we may live
With him forever thru all eternity

There is no greater love that He has shown
The cross stood tall – reaching up to Heaven and
At the time it seemed
All was lost – all was instead
Forgiven
