If I had my way
I'd be perfect overnight
All this rising and falling, Lord -
I mean the process of growing
To be like Christ...
Can be quite frustrating
I want to be like You - NOW!

Picking myself up after a fall
Is very difficult at times
And when I get discouraged
Loathe to rise and wanting to stay down
I find that down is worse than up
Up is sweet but the climb is not
I want to be like You - NOW!

Needless to ask if there is a shortcut
All the saints of old, I know
Plodded through the race by grace
You favoured none so much to spare
The pains involved in growing up
Lord make me just like You, I pray
Did I say 'Now'? No, take Your time.
