Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
(I Corinthians 13:8-10)

For we know in part and prophesy in part, (verse 9)

Knowledge is a gift, and when I was a child I loved getting presents and still enjoy them. Before Christmas, when my parents weren’t looking I would sneak them from under the tree and gently shake them and try to imagine what pleasures they held. And at my birthday parties, I wasn’t hungry for the cake I could see, but wanted the gifts that I only saw in part. The wrapping paper obscured my view as if a veil over my eyes. My hunger was for knowledge; to know the contents in those gifts seemed sweeter than birthday cake.

In many ways age hasn’t changed me, I still have a voracious appetite for what’s beyond the veil of knowledge. Like a child with a gift, is how I feel with a bible in my hands. No, I don’t shake it any more. But regardless of how many times I remove its wrapping, it brings me joy. It’s like opening a new gift everyday. I return day after day searching its riches, but its wealth of secrets seems out of reach. Maybe only knowing in part, keeps our hunger alive, keeps us going back for more. Opening the gift of life daily is the key and when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. The great thing about only knowing in part, is there are greater things in store for us.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the daily gifts of life, your ways are greater than ours and we thank you for saving the best for last (John 2:10). In Jesus name. Amen.
