Blooming Environment

Do you feel you’ve been planted in the wrong field?


“Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. 5 Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. 7 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” 9 And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Mark 4:3-9)NIV


We’re like seeds that were scattered in the wind. Not everyone landed in the palace at the summit. Some fell on the trodden path, in the valley of poverty, others dropped on the steep slopes of instability, and some made it to the crags of never enough.


Sometimes I think the Lord planted me in the wrong spot. I could’ve served Him better if I was a television evangelist, or a pastor of a mega church. But this mentality does more harm to the body than good, and the rich have the same problems as the poor. The Lord planted us in our current locations for a reason. It may seem like we’ve been planted in darkness, or in direct sunlight.


But I’m going to bloom where He planted me, whether in the dark or in the limelight.
We often try to bloom in someone else’s field and wither as a result. It might not seem fair, but we’re there because He chose us for this time and season. We might be growing amongst thorns or on stony ground, but some of the most beautiful flowers bloom in arid places. And when they open, the wind scatters their seeds bringing new life to the parched environment. We need to bloom where we’re planted.
