In so far as we are in this world of insatiability, we are bound to experience difficult times which may seem impossible to surmount. The galloping nature of our world makes is certain to experience ups and downs which at times may be extreme that we may be tempted to give up. It is in this situation that our father speaks gently to us to be still. Due to our personal desire, we don’t even hear Him; we deluge ourselves with things that we think matter to us and fail to take cognizance of the things that would benefit us most which will only come from God.

“Be still” occurred severally in the Bible but some of us don’t understand it. We don’t hear God talk to us. Bible is the word of God. As we read the bible, it is God talking to us individually as a father would talk to his child that is why sometimes when we are in some situation and pick up our bible, the spirit directs us to that particular portion that will address that particular situation.

In difficult situation God tells us to be still. When we are still we recognise he is indeed God. Our situation has not gotten to that experienced by the Israelites at the Red Sea. Looking ahead is the Red Sea, sideways is the wilderness and at the back is the Egyptians pursuing them. They have humanly thought there is no way of escape and God who reminds us today to be still before him, showed them that He can do all things. Even where there is no way He made a way in the Sea and the Israelites passed. To demonstrate further his might, He allowed the enemies to enter in the way He made for his people. The enemies relied on their own human power and failed to see the wonder of God by making a way in the sea. God gave victory to his people by drowning the enemies and not single one of them escaped. What a wonderful God we serve!

Hannah was taunted by his co-wife that she kept bearing the insult. Her only solace was her God to whom she pours out her soul. She did not trust in her husband to reprimand her co-wife and stop her from taunting her because the husband may not achieve much in this regard. She waited patiently on God. She was still before God and when it is God’s time, God blessed her exceedingly that she not only had child, God made her a name that till the end of the time her story is an inspiration. Not only that, Samuel her son was one of the great names in the Bible.

The story of the family of Zacharia is also an inspiration for us to wait on the Lord as he tells us. The bible stated it categorically that Elizabeth WHOM PEOPLE CALLED BARREN IS NOW PREGNANT. In our society today especially we of African origin, inability to give birth to a child is a big problem. It does not matter what is responsible for it. The victim is mocked, embarrassed, discriminated and made to pass through all sorts of hardship. Elizabeth may have suffered such that people call her barren even to her face and she bored the shame. But God who knows all and have purpose for everybody, at the appointed time wiped out her tears and blessed her with the great JOHN. The bible testifies of John, “Of all that is born of women, none is greater than John…..”

All the inspiring stories in the Bible are for us to learn and trust in God. He is God and not man, all his promises to us His children must come through. It only depends on us to be still and see him show us victory. He never fails. Only we should know that it is not by power and it is not by might, rather it is by the spirit of God that we can be victorious, successful and do exploit.
