Devotionals
Good morning! It actually isn't too bad of a morning since i am up earlier than usual. Next week we will begin our study on the book of Hebrews. But this week, I think you will enjoy this verse. I would like to thank my friend for pointing out Acts 4 to me, because I really enjoyed it and got some insight on it. So if you are reading this, thanks :)
"After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and spoke the word of God boldly."
Acts 4:31
Ok, before I begin I want to ask-has this ever happened to any of you all? When you were praying and the place you were at started shaking? This has never happened to me, HOWEVER I HAVE been filled with the power of the Holy Spirit!
The other days I was sort of complaining to God. Asked Him, "LOrd, its sooo awesome when your Holy Spirit shows up. Why can't this happen all the time?" His answer was "it does, you just have to recognise it!". The Holy Spirit falling upon us is not a mood, feeling or emotion. Its bigger than that. Whenever we pray GOD hears our prayers and is in the midst of them.
He is just as much there when we are sleepy and unenthusiastic as when we are excited and passionate! But that excitement and passion EXPECTS Him to be there, so we notice it.
Do you all really think the new Christians in Acts 4 were really all that energetic? They just got yelled at by the chief priests, they have been trying to preach the gospel to a bunch of unbelievers, and people thought they were nuts. But they did have one thing-FAITH. They prayed to God in faith that HE would come through and enable them. And we all know what happens next-He did! Isn't it great-when we ask anything in His name-IT SHALL BE GIVEN TO US. This includes something as amazing as the power of the Holy Spirit falling upon us.
I used to think, nah, thats just for preachers, and people like Paul and Silas. After all, THEY were evanglists. Well, aren't WE evangelists? So we get the same "help" as Paul, Silas, Peter, John and the others.
The title of this verse is-What happens when you REALLY pray? Those men trusted God in a dark and uncertain time. And HE CAME THROUGH. So when we trust God in a dark and uncertain time-HE WILL COME THROUGH :) His holy Spirit will come and give us boldness, wisdom, favour, whatever we need. And its all the glory to HIm! Like whos the most important "Person" in the bible-not David, or Esther or Paul, or John. Its Jesus!! Through all those men and woman did and went through, GOD and Jesus were the ones who were in it all, allowing great things to happen!
Ok, this may have been longer than i thought, but for a closing thought, I'll just say this-BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF GOD. He will come through and give you things GREATER than you ever imagined to work for His kingdom!!
love,
Jamie
Also feel free to share with me some times when YOU were praying and you noticed the Holy Spirit really showed up, and even some times when you prayed, not really believing that He was there, but afterwards, that which you were praying for was answered, thus increading your faith.
